Indian politician falls into open sewage line after ground collapses

 Indian Member of Parliament Poonamben Madam sustained fractures and head injuries after falling into 8-ft deep sewage channel in Jamnagar, after the concrete footbridge she was standing on collapsed.

The politician was attending demolition drive in local slums when the collapse occurred, causing her and others around her to fall into the open sewer channel.

A 40-year-old lawmaker suffered head and shoulder injuries after she fell into a sewage line as the slab she was standing on collapsed.

Poonam Maadam, a member of parliament from Jamnagar in the Western Indian state of Gujarat, was talking to officials from the local municipal corporation during a demolition drive when the incident occurred, according to local news reports.

She was rescued by police officials who were present on the spot, rushed to a local hospital, and later airlifted to Mumbai for treatment, reports said.
