KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi said on Sunday that all security arrangements for the May 14 local level elections have been made.

Informing about the poll preparations at the State Affairs Committee meeting of the Parliament, Nidhi informed that a three-tier security strategy would be adopted for normal, sensitive and more sensitive threats.

He also informed that the arrangements had been made following the suggestion from local levels as well as the identification of security threats and their analysis.

He also informed that 231,000 security personnel would be deployed for the elections, adding that the Ministry of Home Affairs had made the security provisions, coordinating among security forces.

In another context, the Nepali Congress leader added that CPN-UML’s agreement to the Constitution amendment bill and the flexibility of the agitating Madhes-centric parties would create conducive environment for the polls.

Stating that the political environment for the polls was not yet created, Nidhi claimed that the Election Commission and the security arrangement were not sufficient; political parties had also an important role to play in democracy.

He stressed the political settlement through dialogues among the parties for the success of the elections.
